Produce your annual report, sustainability report, or proxy statement from the same linked figures your team already reviews. We set up the styles, page layouts, and production schedule in Workiva, and we work with your designer when the final pages are laid out in InDesign.
Support from first draft to final file
Your designer decides how the report looks, and your reporting team keeps control of what it says. We set up the process that lets both happen in the same cycle.
Brand styles and templates
Turn your brand guidelines into Workiva paragraph and character styles, a color palette, and a page grid. Lock the styles that must stay consistent, so contributors can write without reformatting.

Page design in Workiva
Lay out covers, section openers, and highlight pages in Workiva with text boxes, images, charts, and shapes anchored to the text they belong with. Figures in the narrative and charts link to your reporting data, so a corrected number reaches every page once the links are published.

Workiva and InDesign together
When the design calls for InDesign, Workiva remains the source of the content. Your designer places the exported ICML files, controls the styling, and receives updated content as the report changes. While the stories stay linked, the text in InDesign matches what was approved in Workiva.

Review, proofing, and final output
Plan review rounds around content freeze, layout, and final proof. Reviewers comment on the page in Workiva, and blacklines show what changed between rounds. Before release, we check the PDF, print, and web versions against the approved content.

Scope 1 emissions fell as we replaced fleet vehicles with electric models. Business travel per employee dropped to 1.84 tCO₂e as more client workshops moved to shared online review.

Choose where the final pages are made
Both routes keep the content and figures in Workiva. The difference is where your designer lays out the pages.
Design in Workiva
A good fit when the report changes often, has many contributors, or needs PDF and web versions from the same source. Content, layout, and review stay in one place.
Covers, highlights, and section openers built on the page grid
Charts and in-text figures linked to the data
Reviewers see each page as soon as it changes
Workiva with InDesign
A good fit when the front of the report is heavily art-directed or your agency already works in InDesign. Your team writes and approves in Workiva, and your designer lays out the pages.
ICML exports placed in InDesign as linked stories
Designer styling kept when updated content arrives
A fixed export schedule tied to the review calendar
Many reports combine the two: an art-directed front section laid out in InDesign, with the financial statements and notes produced in Workiva.
Plan the production calendar
Agree the schedule before drafting starts. We set review rounds, export dates, and sign-off points around the one that fits your report.
Sequential
Finalize the content, review it, then lay it out. This leaves the most time for revisions and suits annual reports with a long lead time.
Overlapping
Layout starts while late sections are still being written. It shortens the schedule and needs a clear owner for every late change.
Embargoed
The content is complete and locked before design starts. This suits earnings materials and other reports with strict confidentiality.
Produce next year’s report without starting over
Your team and your designer receive what they need to roll the report forward.
Style guide
The named styles, colors, and grid, with notes on which styles are locked and why.
Report template
Recurring pages and sections ready to roll forward, with linked figures in place.
Production calendar
